Kristen Shamis

Kristen joined the firm in 2006 and became an associate after completing Vermont’s Law Office Study Program. She has significant experience in the firm’s municipal law and business transaction practices, and has also supported the firm’s land use, litigation, and real estate practice areas.

Her municipal law experience focuses on right-of-way issues, delinquent tax collection, third-party legal review, and real estate transactions. She is thorough yet efficient, working effectively with both the municipality and all other stakeholders to ensure a successful result. Kristen has been instrumental in building the firm’s significant delinquent tax collection practice, which spans cities and towns across Vermont. The collection process she developed leverages her investigative and communication skills to maximize yield, and carefully ensures the collection is properly carried out.

Kristen works with business owners through each step of the business life cycle, from formation to sale. Her transactional work ranges from assisting small business owners creating their first limited liability company, to facilitating complex, multi-million-dollar business purchases and sale. She works to understand and respect the priorities and needs of each business owner to effectively assist them in reaching their goals. Kristen received her B.A. in English/Journalism from the University of New Hampshire. Prior to joining the firm, she worked as both a journalist and an editor. She serves on the board of ccThrive, a foundation focused on improving long-term quality of life for childhood cancer survivors. Kristen lives in Shelburne where she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She tries to get outside as much as possible, exploring Lake Champlain in her kayak, and appreciating the beauty of Vermont.
